EIR is the abbreviation of Equipment Interchange Receipt, also known as Equipment Receipt (E/R). It is the certificate for the handover of containers and their equipment between container users, container transporters and container managers or their agents when entering and leaving port areas and stations. It is an agreement on the basic conditions for equipment handover signed between the shipping company or its agent that owns and manages the containers and the land transporter that uses containers for transportation (Equipment Interchange Agreement).
